RGDSN Summer Program

Rio Grande Down Syndrome Network is providing a variety FREE summer programs for our individuals with Down Syndrome and some of the programs for a sibling or buddy. Each program has a maximum number of attendees. Therefore, register early - first come first serve. Program descriptions are located below with an option to sign up for that program. Also, please fill out camper information and parent/caregiver information as well. All programs are free of charge thanks to the Rio Grande Down Syndrome Network.

Please note, some of the programs have additional forms and waivers that must be completed. An email with those details will follow shortly after you register.

Summer Program Details (Registration Opens First of April)

Bike Camp: 
Requirements for Participation (Rider must meet all of below criteria):
 
·       Minimum age - 8 years old
·       Able to sidestep to both sides
·       Have a disability
·       Able to attend camp all 5 days
·       Able to walk without assistive device
·       Maximum weight 220 lbs.
·       Willing and able to wear a properly fitted bike helmet
·       Minimum inseam of 20” (measure from floor while rider is wearing sneakers)
·       Accompanied by parent/guardian willing and able to intervene or assist staff as requested in addressing  any prolonged disruptive or aggressive behavior

NOTE: Dropping-off Riders at the program is not permitted.  A parent, legal guardian or other adult authorized to take responsibility for the Rider (e.g. another parent) must remain on site for duration of each day's 75-minute program.

Camp location: Volcano Vista High School Gym, 8100 Rainbow BLVD, Albuquerque, NM 87114
Fee: $75 deposit. If you attend the full duration of camp (75 minutes for 5 days), your deposit will be refunded.

Volcano Vista Athletic Camps 
Dates: Basketball, Baseball and Soccer May 31-June 2

Age and Time: Basketball ages 6-14 & 9AM-Noon,  Baseball ages 8-12 & 8:30AM-Noon,  Soccer ages 8-15 9AM-11AM.

Location: 8100 Rainbow BLVD, 87114
 
Participants: Individual with Down Syndrome & Buddy/Sibling
 
What to wear:  Athletic Gear.  
 
What to bring:  Water & Suncreen (Baseball and Soccer)
 
 
UNM  - Football Clinic
 
Come take part in a great opportunity to engage with Coach Gonzales and the UNM Football team.  Coach and his team will run participants through a variety football and athletic skills at UNM Stadium (or Indoor Practive Field).

SAGA Gymnastic Camp - Ages 6-14
 
Fundamental gymnastics skills: basic movements, tumbling and body positions. 

Dates: June 12-14 (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday)

Time: 11:15AM-12:15PM (structured gym from 11:15-11:45AM, open gym from 11:45-12:15PM)

Ages: 6-14

Harwood Art Class with Emily
 
Come and enjoy Art activities with Emily.  Emily will have interactive and fun art activities each day for participants.  From painting to drawing and everyting else in between.  It will be a great time.

EXPLORA-tions Summer Camp
 
Innovative camps for children provides a safe, supportive and fun environment to explore science, technology, engineering, art and math.  

Camps Available:     July 10-14 (Our 5 Senses - K-2nd Grade - AM Session)
                              July 17-21 (What's Cooking in Chemistry - 3-5th Grade - AM Session)
                              July 24-28 (Whales to Worms - 3-5th Grade - PM Session)

Jermiah's Place will be conducting COOKING &. ART classes for adults and teenagers.
